In the New
Zealand dance scene, few reputations stand as tall as that of
Sam Hill. A true pioneer, Chemistry
is one of his greatest creations, standing the test of time. We took Sam into
the lab to discover the formula
behind the party's sucess...
When was Chemistry first conceived?
The first Chemistry party was on 6th July 2001 to coincide with the Chemistry
CD release. 2500 people attended the first Chemistry & were part of the
largest St James event to feature an all-local line up.
What was the inspiration behind the event?
Originally the idea was to provide a large scale super-club event at a
reasonable price featuring the best local DJs & top production as an
alternative to the overseas branded parties where the international DJs charged
so much money there was very little left over to put into lighting, lasers,
etc. The Chemistry formula is to stick to the basic principles of creating a
visually stimulating dance environment & to select Auckland's top DJs in
order to create the most uplifting party atmosphere known to man.

As
the event returns to the mighty St James with the outstanding M2 production
team behind it, what is in store for the Chemistry massive?
This one is going to be the biggest one yet production-wise. The M2 team are
renowned for putting on memorable productions & delivering visually
stunning parties so I think this will be a true showcase. Get ready for a
stunning visual assault, incorporating intelligent lighting & projection,
Psyklonics mirrored objects & a completely over-the-top, full-colour,
multi-system laser show!
How will the event be set-up, what rooms will be open &
what genres will the event cover this time?
There is trance in the main room plus a few extra rooms featuring the best DJs
in a few other genres like hard dance, house & electro. Musically this one
has something that will appeal to everyone. With 3 separate areas to party in,
this will be the ultimate indoor nightclub experience.
